The episode is styled as a variety show and features Mr. Hankey as the host; he sits by the fire in his sewer home and introduces shorts featuring unusual holiday songs. The episode was dedicated to Mary Kay Bergman, the voice of most of the female characters on the show, who committed suicide less than a month earlier.
Mailman Timmy begins things with his rendition of "Mr. Hankey, the Christmas Poo." Mr. Garrison sings about Christmas, Mr. Mackey sings the Carol of the Bells, the Broflovskis sing the Dreidl song, Cartman sings about O Holy Night.
The "fighting the frizzies" newsman is a reference to the 1978 Star Wars Holiday Special. The only widespread copy of the Star Wars special was taped with all commercials intact and a local TV station news teaser with a newscaster saying "fighting the frizzies at eleven" came at the end of commercial breaks.
Death doesn't forgets Kenny even on Christmas as he dies crushed by a chandelier.
